Pārgājieni vasarā / Summer mountain hikes
1977.gads / year 1977
1979.gads / year 1979
Two years later Juris first in the summer went to the Caucasus. Together with Viesturs, he took part in a third-category mountain hike led by Ansis Kalcenaus in Digoria and in Racha district of Georgia. We crossed eight mountain passes, climbed to an altitude of 4058 meters and in 16 days visited one of the most scenic areas of the Caucasus. Digoria became our favorite mountain area, which we visited several times.
1982.gads / year 1982
The summer of 1982 was full of adventures. First of all, in July, under the guidance of Juris, we made a very interesting hike around the highest peak of the Caucasus – Elbrus, traversing its N and E plateaus at an altitude of 3900-4100m and crossing four passes. Inta also participated. Short afterwards, Juris and Inta joined a team which also included Viesturs and Edvins, led by Uldis Alksnis, to perform a fifth category mountain hike along the route: Terskol – Donguzorun Pass (1B 3268m) – Nakra Pass (2B 3696m) – Ushba Pass (3A 3863m) – Chatin Pass (2B 3695m) – Dallakora Pass (2B* 3426m) – Njurmishi Pass (2A 3606m) – Semi Pass (2A 3769m) – Canner Pass (2A 3900m) – Bezengi Village. An interesting trip to the well-explored Central Caucasus region. At that time, a group came together, which later made difficult hikes in the Pamirs and other mountains under the leadership of Uldis Alksnis.
